Glencoe Country Club
Not everyone left town for the 4th of July weekend, and many enjoyed the game on July 2 -
“Gizzards and Lizards.”  The 20 ladies in attendance played their regular game and earned 5
points for every fairway on which their drive landed. They also counted their total putts and
subtracted that number from the total points from drives on the fairway.  A few frustrated players
ended with a negative score, and some had a more consistent round.  LuAnn Hanson, with many
accurate drives on the fairway and only a few putts, won that event.  On July 9, the eighteen ladies
in attendance played the “Mutt and Jeff” game where only the par 3 and par 5 scores counted.  A
new member, Donna Stuewe, was that winner.  Sometimes one can have her best scores on the
holes that count.  Way to go, Donna!  July 16 was the night for a new game, “Trouble.”  Twenty six
ladies gave that game a try.  Each person was given a list of potential “trouble” areas with a point
assessed for each “issue.”  For example, we scored 1 point for landing in a bunker and 2 points for
each additional time one had to hit again out of the bunker.  Other “trouble” areas included hitting
trees, going in the water, hitting any markers on the course, etc.  Those with the fewest points and
winning the event were Carol Dammann and Cookie Lehtinen.   July 23 was our Member/Guest
night. Katy Scrimgeour and Mary Kohr, members of the Ladies’ League Committee, again
planned and organized a fun night for members and guests.  It was a perfect evening for this
shotgun where 28 ladies played.  Appetizers for players were generously donated by members of
Ladies’ League.  The format was a 3 hole alternate shot, 3 hole scramble, and a 3 hole best ball.
Some of the league members brought friends from other courses and areas, and some members
played with one another.  Our last event, held on July 30, was the longest putt on hole #4.  Another
new league member this year, Janel Tangen, won that game.  Good putting, Janel!    With the end
of July also came the end of the summer season for the Ladies’ League.  The fall league begins
on August 6 through the end of the golf season.  Join now if you are not already a member.

All lady league members are encouraged to sign up for the League Championship to be held
on August 20, and ladies that are GCC members are encouraged to participate in the Club
Championship to be held on August 29th.  Play will be handicapped, and the flights will have tee
times. We hope to have a good turnout at both events.  Watch for sign-up sheets.

As is said each month, all ladies are welcome to play on Thursday and join us for supper.  Just
be sure to get a tee time, and be sure to sign up for supper by Thursday morning.  Remember –
Thursdays ARE for ladies!!!

Thoughts for the month:
  • When in trouble, play the shot you know you can play, not the shot you hope you can play.
    (Jack Burke, Jr.)
  • You can tell a good putt by the noise it makes.
  • Don’t give advice unless you are asked.
