Glencoe Country Club
The first event of the month occurred on June 4 with the Member/Member Scramble.
Participation was good with 26 ladies playing in the event.  Members of the Ladies’ Committee
provided snacks during the pre-play social as an added treat.  First place went to Sheila Erpenbach
and Cookie Lehtinen; second place went to Jan Lucker and Becky Olmstead; third place went to
Lee Starr and Pam Hanson, and fourth place went to the team of Cindy Lilienthal and Lori
Harms.

The final week of the Spring Season was on June 11.  Joslin Thiemann, Katy Scrimgeour, Marce
Selvey, and Karen Benson were the winners of the game on that day with the most “Flaggers.”
Way to putt, ladies!  The winners of the spring season are posted on the web site as well as in the
clubhouse.  Congratulations to those teams!

This year’s Ladies’ Invitational was held on June 18th.  Inclement weather was predicted but held
off.   Some of the 46 ladies who participated came from our club, but we also had ladies from
Litchfield, Belle Plaine, Carver, Victoria, Waconia and Charles City, Iowa.  The format was a two
person scramble.  The Ladies’ League committee members who organized the event were Mary
Kohr, Katy Scrimgeour, and Shelli Kessler.  They sent out letters of invitation, gathered prizes,
assembled baskets, and brought appetizers for the pre-game social.  Other committee members
helped with manning the tables for mulligans, ½ the pot, and raffle.    Wonderful door prizes and
raffle items (donated by ladies’ league members) were given out, and prizes were awarded for field
events and for the following placings:

1.      Rita Yetzer and Julie Gunderson

2.      Mary Resch and Janel Tangen

3.      Linda Delagardelle and Karen Chastek

4.      Beth Peterson and Shelli Kessler

5.      Marce Selvey and Sandy Grochow

6.      Tona Kerslake and Kari Dose

We were pleased with the turnout which seems to be a bit greater each year.   Thanks especially to
Mary, Shelli and Katy, who coordinated the event and to all who helped in any way!!!

The Summer Season began on June 25 with the game of “Guess your score.”  Of course, we had
to guess the number BEFORE we played our round.  Kari Dose, Sheila Erpenbach and Barb
Smyth all predicted exactly their scores and were the winners.  They all must be very consistent in
their play.

The only Ladies’ event for July will be on the 23rd with a Member/Guest.  It is not too early to
invite your friends to play.  A sign-up sheet will soon be posted.

Thoughts for the month:

-   Putting allows the touchy golfer 2–4 opportunities to blow a gasket in the short space of 2–30 feet.

-   Putting affects the nerves more than anything.  One could actually get nauseated over a 3-footer.

-   Every shot counts.  The three-foot putt is just as important as the 200 yard drive.
