Glencoe Country Club
Superintendent News - October  2009

October brings great fall color to the trees that grace our Country Club, but it also brings frosty
mornings. Frost usually means a delay in tee times in the morning. We hold golfers and employees off
the course when it's frosty. You can really damage the grass plant when you walk on frozen turf. So we
keep everyone off until the fall sun melts it away. If you ever need something to do while waiting for the
frost, you could go and buy donuts for your favorite grounds crew.

This month we start to wind down the course and prep it for winter. One thing we will be doing is
blowing out the irrigation system. This takes a good day to winterize. Also we will start putting down
winter protection on our greens and tees. You will notice at the end of the month all the hazard stakes
and benches will be put away. This is just us wrapping things up for the winter. I am looking at doing a
tree trimming work-day at the course. I will keep you posted on when this will happen.

Employee of the Month

Paul Popelka has been on our team since 2006. He does a great job on our spring and fall crew.
Thanks for the hard work, Paul!

Have a great month!!
